Tiffany Haddish recently took the time to clarify fan misunderstanding regarding a new Instagram image featuring her longtime companion Jason Lee and an infant.
During her hosting duties on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, August 19, the 45-year-old comedian shared insights about the enigmatic post from August 3 that led many to suspect she had given birth.
“There is a personal issue that I feel should be clarified,” Haddish announced at the start of the episode, as she filled in for Kimmel, who is currently enjoying a summer break.
She elaborated, “It sent everyone into a frenzy. For some strange reason, people looked at this and thought I had a child. Even my own family members were asking me about it.”
The camera then focused on Lee, 47, in the audience while Haddish addressed him directly. “The whole world seems to have gone a bit mad over this lovely infant,” Haddish remarked, humorously adding, “I decided to make it our God baby.”
Reassuring everyone that she had not given birth with Lee, Haddish added, “Jason, the invitation is still open if you want to create a real baby,” to which Jason humorously responded, “And I am still gay.”
Haddish reiterated, “I did not have a baby, but I am certainly open to the idea. Very open to it.”
The actress and comedian, who was wed to William Stewart for three years before their divorce, and later dated rapper Common from 2020 to 2021, shared with Us Weekly in 2021 her earlier aspirations to adopt a child. At that time, she indicated that those plans were on “pause” due to her increasing workload, stating that when she feels ready to become a mother, she wants to “dedicate time to them.”
Haddish shared, “I want to nurture the child. I want to instill my knowledge and love in them. So, I wish to accomplish a few more things first, so I can give my full attention. It’s one thing to care for a dog and a garden, but raising another human who depends on me and for whom I bear responsibility, I need to be fully present. I want to be completely engaged. I don't want anyone else doing that work.”
In her Tuesday monologue, she humorously listed her ideal baby daddies, which included “Marcus from Running Point,” portrayed by Toby Sandeman, Tom Cruise, because “no mission is too impossible for me,” and Brad Pitt, who can “press any of my Benjamin Buttons.”
Concluding the discussion, Haddish put out a call for other potential partners. “If you or someone you know is interested in putting a baby on me, don't hesitate to reach out on social media,” she stated.
The Instagram post that set everything in motion, shared by both Haddish and Lee, depicted the two grinning while holding a baby, accompanied by a caption that read, “Cats out the bag.”
