Hours after 16-year-old Jace shared screenshots of conversations addressing a purported conflict between himself and Jenelle’s former spouse David Eason, as well as matters regarding Jace's custody, Jenelle, 33, responded through her Instagram Stories to clarify the situation. (Jenelle was just 17 when Jace was born, and she initially granted custody to her mother, Barbara Evans. In 2023, Jenelle regained custody.)
"My children mean everything to me, and all of my efforts are focused on protecting, guiding, and loving them," Jenelle stated in her first of two Instagram Stories posted on Tuesday, August 19. "Like any parent, I establish rules and boundaries, and that can be challenging at times. Jace sharing our private messages was his reaction to appropriate discipline."
TMZ reported, after allegedly speaking with Jenelle following the release of Jace’s screenshots, that the messages “were taken out of context and shared in response to her disciplining her son.”
In the initial Instagram Story, Jenelle expressed how Jace’s behavior impacted her feelings. "It is painful to see those moments exposed publicly, yet I recognize that it stems from a place of struggle," she wrote in soft pink letters against a backdrop filled with clouds. "Managing Jace’s various medical diagnoses has been difficult, but I have never ceased fighting to ensure he receives the resources, love, and support he requires."
Jenelle's second Instagram Story also mentioned that Jace had recently encountered legal issues. "He has been facing challenges with law enforcement in recent months and is struggling to adapt to the established rules," Jenelle explained. "I have been doing everything I can to assist him in navigating this, but we are clashing in the process. We kindly ask for your understanding during this time, as this is tough for all of us."
Jace's screenshots were posted across three separate Instagram grid posts. The first one had the caption, “I am finally putting out how much mother really is,” while the second post was captionless, and the third stated, “I need to go back to NC she is just rlly [sic] unstable.” (In June, Jenelle told Us Weekly that Jace was “back at home with me” in Las Vegas, having previously stayed with his biological father Andrew Lewis in Florida.)
The first post featured a message from Jenelle that said, “Your [sic] the one saying you’re going to have my custody taken. F*** YOU.”
In his second post, Jace included additional messages from Jenelle stating, “Just like the way you lied about David strangling you. You make things worse on yourself.” Jace’s replies contested Jenelle’s assertion and elaborated on the alleged incident.
In September 2023, Jace alleged that Eason, 37, had assaulted him. Less than two years later, Jenelle confirmed via a TikTok video that Jace had moved in with Lewis in order to support his mental health.
At that moment, she mentioned, “Jace received his ADHD diagnosis when he turned 10, and … in 2023, he was additionally diagnosed with major depressive disorder, alongside his ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder, also known as ODD. Managing defiant disorder can be extremely challenging. Children deliberately misbehave seeking attention. They exhibit no regret. They do not possess empathy for their actions.”
