Zach Bryan is candidly discussing the changes he has made in his relationship with alcohol after facing recent mental health issues.
The 29-year-old country artist took to Instagram on Tuesday, November 18, to deliver an heartfelt message to his followers, revealing that a recent motorcycle journey across the nation led him to the realization, “I truly need some help.”
“I found myself in an ongoing state of dissatisfaction that drove me to constantly seek alcohol, not for enjoyment, but because there was a persistent emptiness within me that needed to be filled,” Bryan expressed. He further mentioned that the pressures of fame had “some subconscious impacts on my character.”
He recounted experiences of being misrepresented and doxxed online, supporting a close friend during a significant mental breakdown, another close friend's serious motorcycle crash that left him in a coma, all while touring and performing five to six nights a week. “I was experiencing devastating panic attacks. The anxiety was crippling, and I thought that because I had attained success, the wealth I desired, and supportive friends, I could endure anything," he reflected.
The singer of “Something in the Orange” revealed that he has recently sought the guidance of a therapist to address his “unhealthy relationship with alcohol and my methods of coping with significant life transitions.”
“I have refrained from consuming alcohol for almost two months now—an essential step for my own mental clarity. I needed to gain an objective view of the world,” he wrote. “My family has been supportive of every decision I’ve made. Discussions about the future, having children someday, my wellbeing, and [girlfriend] Sammy’s happiness have motivated me to focus not just on myself, but on my family as a whole.”
“I am feeling wonderful, satisfied, and complete. There is nothing I require to get by anymore,” Bryan added. “If you or anyone you know is too proud, apprehensive, or stubborn to seek help, remember that the most obstinate person on earth did reach out and has no regrets.”
“I don’t subscribe to absolute statements. Maybe one day, I’ll master my habits, but for now, I want to emphasize that it’s perfectly fine to feel vulnerable at times and to seek assistance. Godspeed to everyone! I hope this message resonates with someone,” he concluded.
Bryan also captioned his post, “This isn’t meant to be a ‘look at me’ perspective; I know I am among the luckiest individuals alive. I hope others don't interpret this as me taking my blessings lightly.”
“I felt compelled to share this because I believe many individuals face mental health challenges and often feel isolated, resulting in unnecessary suffering in silence. Here’s my perspective on mental health. I hope it offers support to someone who is struggling to articulate their feelings during tough times,” he added.
In the comments section, supporters of Bryan swiftly expressed their gratitude for the artist and extended their best wishes for his path to sobriety.
“Overwhelmed with happy tears! I am so proud of you @zachlanebryan 🙌 Thank you for opening up about your experience and motivating so many others who might be facing challenges,” commented one admirer.
Another stated, “It takes strength to pursue transformation, and we love witnessing it 🤍.”
