The series Malice on Prime Video centers around a male nanny who embeds himself with a wealthy family while secretly orchestrating their downfall — but what transpired in the finale?
In the first season, which debuted on Friday, November 14, Adam (Jack Whitehall) managed to devastate Jamie’s (David Duchovny) life before reaching the final episode. His resentment towards Jamie, whom he held responsible for his father's ruin, spurred vengeful actions that included infidelity and culminated in Damien’s (Raza Jaffrey) murder.
The finale showcased an intense reunion between Adam and Jamie as law enforcement closed in on them. Prior to their arrival, Adam shot Jamie and made his escape. His facial expression in the closing moments hinted that attaining what Jamie desired did not yield the satisfaction he had anticipated throughout the season.
Christine Adams, portraying Jules, shared her thoughts with Us Weekly, remarking, “It’s refreshing. It would be such a cliché to have Jamie emerge unscathed with everyone surviving. While it’s tragic, it represents a truly satisfying twist.”
Adams, age 51, expressed her enthusiasm for this plot twist, saying, “Audiences deserve surprises at times. Not every story needs a neatly wrapped conclusion. It makes for excellent television.”
Raza Jaffrey, 50, commended the various plot developments, including his character’s death on screen.
“It’s fantastic to portray a character that might be dismissed early on as completely disengaged. He enjoys lounging on the beach and remains oblivious for much of the storyline,” Jaffrey remarked about Damien’s eventual inquiry into Adam. “When it becomes apparent that this character is an astute observer, it’s a revelation.”
He added, “He operates without concern for others' opinions. If he’s mistaken, it doesn’t bother him, which is a remarkable trait. However, it may not be the wisest approach for his situation.”
Adams also participated in revealing Adam’s true nature.
“The audience craves this, as I'm sure viewers in those initial episodes notice elements that we don’t,” she explained. “They may identify this character as a warning sign that warrants concern. With Damien’s involvement, the audience will appreciate that someone is finally attempting to delve into Adam’s character, enabling the mystery to start unfolding.”
Reflecting on the series' conclusion, Jaffrey expressed admiration for the finale, stating, “It’s a genuine progression for those characters — and I hope the audience will experience the same astonishment we felt when we read the script for the first time.”
Malice is available for streaming on Prime Video.
