A woman from Japan has been officially charged and is set to face trial following an alleged attempt to kiss Jin, a member of BTS, at a fan event.
On the 12th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office announced that Ms. A, a woman in her 50s from Japan, has been indicted without detention for breaking the Act on Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (Forcible Indecency).
Ms. A stands accused of trying to kiss Jin on the cheek during a "hug event" that took place at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul last June. The inquiry started after a formal complaint was lodged regarding her actions.
Initially, the Songpa Police Station had processed Ms. A and sought her testimony, but the investigation was put on hold in March. It resumed once Ms. A willingly reported to the police station.
Authorities concluded that Ms. A's behavior fell under the charge of forcible indecency and submitted the case to the prosecution in May.
In the meantime, BTS, the group to which Jin belongs, is currently working on an album to be released in full next spring.
