Jodie Turner-Smith conveyed a mysterious message regarding individuals who “appear so kind” while dealing with her ongoing custody battles with her former spouse, Joshua Jackson.
The actress, 38, reposted a meme on her Instagram Story late Monday, June 2, showcasing images of four animated characters — including Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear from Toy Story 3 and Prince Hans from Frozen — who turned out to be antagonists in their respective films.
The meme included the phrase, “Why don’t you have a good impression of that person? They seem so likable.”
It further states, “You know who else appeared to be likable...” alluding to the previously mentioned characters.
“Take care out there,” Turner-Smith included her own message alongside the meme.
Earlier on Monday, it came to light that Jackson, 46, had submitted a request for an urgent modification of their custody arrangement.
The actor filed a request on Friday, May 30, claiming that his ex-wife altered their 5-year-old daughter Juno’s school without obtaining his consent, according to court documents accessed by Us Weekly. (Juno was born to Jackson and Turner-Smith in April 2020.)
Jackson asserted in the documents that Turner-Smith believes it to be “not a big deal to make Juno start anew at a different school.” He expressed concern that “Jodie is trying to create a situation where Juno travels with her instead of going to a conventional school.”
In the filings, Jackson sought a court mandate for Juno to remain at her current school for the upcoming year. He also requested that both he and Turner-Smith have joint consent for any further changes to Juno’s schooling in the future.
In May, it was reported that Jackson and Turner-Smith had finalized a divorce agreement, as per court records received by Us. The arrangement stipulated shared legal and physical custody of Juno between the former partners.
The agreement, signed on May 3, indicated that neither Jackson nor Turner-Smith would receive alimony. While Turner-Smith indicated in the documents that the couple separated on September 13, 2023, Jackson recorded their separation date as September 30, 2023.
In October 2023, Us confirmed that Turner-Smith had initiated divorce proceedings against Jackson after over four years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the grounds for their separation.
Since their split, both Turner-Smith and Jackson have emphasized prioritizing their daughter.
“It all revolves around — prioritizing the children, and that’s all you can focus on,” Turner-Smith stated to Entertainment Tonight in November 2024 regarding co-parenting amidst their separation. “No one is perfect, but when your focus is on the right priorities, you know you’ll strive for the best.”
On the other hand, Jackson expressed during an April episode of the “Dinner’s On Me” podcast, “If I ever did anything to create distance between my daughter and myself, I would be in distress. I literally can’t envision it because the thought of that pain is unbearable.”
He went on to say, “No matter how complicated or beautiful the divorce may be, whether co-parenting is simple or challenging… I believe that this generation of fathers recognizes the need to be present. They understand, ‘It’s going to be tough, but this matters, and I have to step up.’ It’s my responsibility — alongside my ex-wife — to ensure that we do everything possible to support you, develop your potential, and provide you with all the resources you require in life.”
