A judge has reportedly mandated that Haley Joel Osment participate in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a period of six months after his arrest for being publicly intoxicated.

Osment, aged 37, appeared in a court in Mammoth Lakes, California, on Monday, June 2, where he was granted a one-year diversion as an alternative to facing criminal charges, according to People. Consequently, he will need to attend a minimum of three AA sessions weekly until December. Additionally, he is required to see a therapist no less than twice a week.

In April, Us confirmed that the star of The Sixth Sense was taken into custody at the Mammoth Mountain resort, initially charged with public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. Subsequently, he faced charges for disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine.

Osment had been engaged in a dispute with resort staff just before he was arrested on a Tuesday afternoon. TMZ released a video capturing the actor as he attempted to board a chairlift without his snowboard. An employee urged Osment to step out of line, while another guest at the resort attempted to pull him back, resulting in both of them falling over.

When the staff member informed Osment that security was on their way, he eventually agreed to leave the line. A witness claimed that Osment "strongly smelled of alcohol" and noted that after exiting the line, he approached his snowboard and seemed to “fumble around with it.”

Body camera footage obtained by Us on April 17 depicted Osment being apprehended in a Mammoth Lakes parking lot. An officer remarked to a colleague that Osment was “far beyond intoxication.” While being handcuffed, Osment insisted repeatedly that he was “being attacked” by the police during the arrest. During the struggle, he made an anti-Semitic remark towards the arresting officer.

A person in the background of the video claimed that Osment had “lunged at a bartender,” while another asserted: “He went to the bar, ordered one drink; he was so drunk that he spilled it. … They served him one drink, he was so intoxicated that he spilled it, and they cut him off.” This individual further stated, “Then he became frustrated and confrontational; they wouldn’t allow him to load the lift.”

Osment later apologized for his behavior regarding the incident, stating to Us in a remark: “I’m genuinely horrified by my actions. If I had been aware that I used that disgraceful language while in a blackout, I would have spoken out sooner.”

The actor, who lost his home in Altadena, California, due to the wildfires that swept through the L.A. area in January, mentioned in the statement that he had endured challenging months, but that was no excuse for his use of offensive language.

“The recent months filled with loss and dislocation have taken a toll on me emotionally,” he expressed. “However, that doesn’t justify my use of such an offensive term. I sincerely apologize to everyone who feels hurt by my words. What I said was mindless and inappropriate — I have let the Jewish community down, and that profoundly affects me. While I do not seek forgiveness, I am committed to making amends for my grave error.”

As reported by People on Monday, the district attorney of Mono County opposed Osment’s plea for a diversion, referring to his 2006 DUI charge. The judge, however, dismissed this objection. Should Osment meet the stipulations of the court-mandated program successfully, the charges he faces will be dropped. His next scheduled court date is January 5, 2026.
