Taylor Swift is sharing what Travis Kelce told her just before he proposed in August.

The 35-year-old Grammy Award winner appeared alongside host Jimmy Fallon on the October 6 episode of The Tonight Show, making a striking entrance in a shiny sequined minidress and glimmering platform heels. She took a short moment to discuss her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, before Fallon, 51, offered his congratulations on her recent engagement to Travis Kelce after a two-year relationship.

“Taylor, that’s unbelievable,” Fallon commented, admiring the large diamond ring that Kelce, 36, placed on Swift’s finger.

“It’s wild,” she responded about her ring, noting that Kelce “had it for quite a while before giving it to me, too.”

Swift admitted that she examines the ring “all the time. It doesn’t feel normal at all for me. I just sort of think, ‘Oh, wow!'”

She expressed her admiration for her fiancé, saying, “He’s truly my favorite person I’ve ever known — no disrespect to anyone else. But the reality that I get to spend every day with him forever … that’s the essence of it. You look at [the ring] and think, ‘I get to be with him forever,’ and this symbolizes that.”

When Fallon brought up the timing of the proposal — noting that Swift and Kelce got engaged shortly after she recorded an episode of his “New Heights” podcast — Swift remarked, “I think, for Travis, the podcast was kind of a distraction, a way to keep me from checking out the windows of the house.”

She elaborated, “Every time he does the podcast, it’s not like he covers all the windows.”

However, in advance of Kelce’s elaborate proposal in a beautifully adorned backyard, Swift remembered that there were “fully, like, blackout curtains on every single window in the house.”

At that point, “I sort of realized that he was walking around a bit anxious about the podcast, [saying], ‘My heart is racing. … I know how much this means to you. I really want this to be what you wanted it to be.’ Because we had been discussing doing the podcast and announcing the album, and he was like, ‘My heart’s just racing.’ I’ve never seen him nervous. Ever. He’s never like that professionally.”

Swift recalled that Kelce suggested, “Would you want to just stroll around the backyard and sip some wine?” She replied, “I’m always going to want to do that.”

At that moment, she understood “why all the windows were covered and why he seemed nervous,” she explained. “It turned out to be the best possible scenario.”

During a humorous segment where Fallon asked Swift to confirm the truth behind several recent rumors, she disclosed that her good friend Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement through Instagram.

"Absolutely," Swift replied, giggling while covering her face with her hands. She continued, "I have a flawless explanation! … He doesn’t own a phone." She mentioned that’s “one aspect I adore about him. It’s quite quirky. I love it. But when I’m sifting through [my contacts, figuring out] who we should call, who we should FaceTime, I’m scrolling through my messages and thinking, ‘Who have I texted in the last month of my life?’ And he simply wasn’t there.”

Swift referred to Sheeran, 34, as one of her “favorite individuals in the world” and “like family,” and when “the news broke, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, we forgot to reach out to Ed!'”

Her appearance on the Tonight Show on Monday marked yet another visit to the NBC late-night show during her career. She had previously appeared on the show in October 2022 while promoting her tenth album, Midnights.

Swift’s conversation with Fallon came after a hectic release weekend for the artist. Just hours following the drop of her album on Friday, October 3, Swift launched The Official Release Party of a Showgirl in cinemas nationwide, providing fans with an inside look at the making of the album, the music video for the lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” and lyric videos for the other 11 tracks. Additionally, Swift made an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday for her first television interview of her Showgirl era.

Once the release party finished its theatrical run, Swift unveiled her lyric videos and the “Fate of Ophelia” music video on YouTube on Sunday, October 5.

Later this week, Swift will further her television tour with an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers in the early morning of Thursday, October 9.

Amidst her busy schedule surrounding the launch of her 12th album, Swift is relishing life with her fiancé — and joyfully showcasing that ring. Regarding Kelce, he openly shared his engagement proposal for the first time in a September chat with Erin Andrews.

“I’m an emotional person, so there were a few tears here and there,” he remarked. “But it’s been an exhilarating journey leading up to this day. I’m excited to spend the rest of my life with her.”

Kelce expressed that Swift has “infused excitement and a love for life that has made me a better man, improved who I am, and made me feel more at ease with myself.”
