Keanu Reeves received the support of his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, during the premiere of his new play, Waiting for Godot, on Sunday, September 28.
The couple posed for photos while holding hands on the red carpet at the Hudson Theatre located in New York City. Reeves, aged 61, looked dapper in a black tuxedo jacket paired with gray pinstriped trousers. Grant, who is 52, donned a sophisticated black dress for the event.
The evening was significant as it marked the debut of Waiting for Godot, a fresh adaptation of the tragicomic play by renowned Irish playwright and poet Samuel Beckett, produced by the Jamie Lloyd Company. Reeves shares the stage with his long-time co-star from Bill & Ted, Alex Winter.
Since going public with their relationship in 2019, Reeves and Grant have recently clarified rumors surrounding their marital status.
“A representative for Reeves stated on September 22 to E! News, ‘It is not true. They are not married.’”
Just a few days later, Grant responded to the speculation with a heartfelt caption on an Instagram photo of the couple sharing a kiss.
“This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… just a kiss! (Though it might be the moment right before or after… considering our slightly silly expressions!) We were at Roden Crater, where Keanu and Gard had just finished interviewing James Turrell for Visionaries,” Grant wrote.
The visual artist added, “I want to express gratitude to everyone for the congratulatory messages regarding our wedding. However, we did not get married. I understand people are in need of good news these days, but this particular rumor is false, so be cautious out there! Here’s a glimpse of real joy!”
Reeves and Grant first crossed paths at a dinner party in 2009 and later collaborated on various projects, including Reeves’ book, Ode to Happiness and Shadow. Their first public appearance as a couple took place at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November 2019.
While the couple has kept much of their relationship private, Grant shared a heartwarming tribute on Instagram for Reeves’ 61st birthday on September 2.
“Thank you to everyone who sent sweet birthday wishes to Keanu yesterday… he was celebrated in style!” she wrote.
“As many of you might know, Keanu does not use any social media and only sees posts or memes if someone shows him,” she added.
Speaking directly to the Matrix star, she continued, “And to Keanu – who viewed this post as a draft! – I am incredibly thankful for your love and partnership. Now back to painting! xo”
