Country musician Drake White and his spouse, Alex White, are experiencing profound sorrow due to a tragic loss in their family.
On Sunday, September 7, the couple announced that their baby girl, who was born prematurely, passed away just a week earlier. In a shared post on Instagram, they revealed that their daughter arrived at 29 weeks and sadly died just 20 minutes following her birth.
“On Sunday, August 31st, our beloved daughter, Della Elizabeth White, went peacefully to be with Jesus,” they stated, mentioning that Della weighed 3 pounds and 3.5 ounces at the time of her birth. “We are immensely grateful for the sacred moments that God granted us with her. During this challenging period, the Lord has been incredibly close to us, providing support and strength. Although our hearts are shattered and we feel exhausted, we hold onto the belief that we will navigate this tough time with the strength, peace, and joy that only our Heavenly Father can offer. May Della be embraced in Jesus' arms until we reunite with her someday.”
They included passages from the book of Psalms, such as, “I am dying from my grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Misery has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands.”
The couple's post featured a poignant black-and-white image depicting them with their baby girl in the hospital. Alex was seen cradling the newborn while Drake, 41, wrapped his arm around his wife.
Friends and colleagues quickly reached out to express their sympathies. Jessie James Decker wrote, “I am so sorry. I love you and I’m praying for you all. No one should ever endure this level of pain. I know your sweet girl will forever remain in your heart and will watch over you🤍.”
Lauren Alaina shared, “My heart aches for you. Sending so much love and prayers your way,” while fellow country artist RaeLynn expressed, “I am so sorry. Praying for you three 😥 Jesus is near the brokenhearted! Cover them, Jesus.”
Terri Clark conveyed her support, stating, “I am so so very incredibly sorry to hear this. My heart is broken for you both. Sending you both love. No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child.”
Drake and Alex are already parents to their 2-year-old son William Hawk. In May, they announced their anticipation of a second child, conceived in March through IVF.
“Sharing the news with our family and friends has been one of the most joyful moments of the entire pregnancy,” Alex told People at that time. “It brings us so much happiness to see them share in our excitement for the arrival of a new baby.”
Drake mentioned that they intended to name their daughter after influential women in their family.
“We plan to incorporate family surnames and name her in honor of both of Alex's grandmothers,” he clarified. “We are incredibly grateful and blessed to expand our family with the help of IVF's miracle.”
