The Chrisley family experienced a significant rift during the time Todd and Julie Chrisley were imprisoned, as stated in Lifetime’s docuseries The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.

“Last I heard, there’s no one else in my family actively attempting to support my parents,” Savannah Chrisley remarked during the premiere episode on September 1. “Nobody is out there addressing the RNC, visiting the White House, or making trips to Washington D.C. in hopes of meeting influential people. No one is making financial contributions to help my parents.”

Todd and Julie were sentenced to 28 months in prison after being found guilty of charges related to tax evasion and bank and wire fraud in 2022. They were freed in May following a pardon from President Donald Trump. (In addition to Savannah, the couple has sons Chase and Grayson Chrisley and an adopted daughter, Chloe.)

The docuseries provided an intimate view of how the family managed during Todd and Julie's incarceration and the shifts in their relationships following their release.

“I’ve already informed my parents that we will face a major problem when they return if they believe we can simply revert to being a joyous family,” Savannah expressed. “Honestly, I’m unsure if things can ever go back to how they were.”

Julie’s Mother

The parents of Julie, Harvey and Pam Hughes, also appear in the docuseries. Pam disclosed that she had to return to work once Todd and Julie were imprisoned.

“We had a townhouse that Julie and Todd planned to purchase for us. When they were away, that plan vanished,” Pam revealed during the premiere on September 1. “Thus, we found ourselves in a situation where, in order to afford a place here, we both had to get back to work to make ends meet.”

Chloe’s Adjustment

Savannah shared that the adoption process for Chloe was never officially concluded until about a month or two prior to the time mom and dad left, indicating that her father had first resisted relinquishing the parental rights of his oldest son, Kyle. However, Todd and Julie needed to finalize the adoption so that Savannah could take care of Chloe while they were incarcerated.

In the second episode, Savannah described Chloe as a “nightmare.” “I can’t do anything right; I’m terrible at everything,” Savannah admitted.

In a confessional during the second episode, Grayson referred to himself as the singular “consistent male figure” in Chloe’s world. “She finds a lot of comfort in that,” he noted.

Grayson’s Baseball Journey

During the premiere on September 1, Grayson shared that he chose to give up baseball when Julie went to prison, explaining that he had “never played a game” that she didn’t attend.

Chase and Family Dynamics

Savannah indicated during the premiere on September 1 that her relationship with Chase was “definitely on rocky terms.”

“Over the last two and a half years, he hasn’t provided any assistance to me,” she asserted. “In terms of the children, financially, our parents, he hasn’t taken on any responsibilities, even though he’s had plenty of chances to do so.”

On the other hand, Chase argued that Savannah doesn’t truly desire his support. “She prefers to claim that she’s accomplished everything by herself,” he remarked.

Grayson shared his perspective during the second episode of the docuseries.

“Chase never supports us,” he stated to their grandmother Nanny Faye. “The same parents he lost are the same ones I've lost, but I refuse to continually hold his hand since I have already been a big brother to him; he hasn’t been one to me.”

Grayson went on to say that Chase “exists in his own reality,” adding, “In the end, he will do what he wants, and no one can alter that.”

In the second episode, Chase expressed that Savannah was portraying him as “this enormous villain.”

“I wish to be there for my family,” he stated. “I desire us to have an actual family dynamic and relationship.”

Savannah Is in Conflict With Her Grandfather

The first episode concluded with a family dinner that revealed tension between Savannah and her grandfather, Harvey.

“Let us know how we can assist you,” Harvey requested. “We pray for you daily, but what can we do to support you?”

Savannah chuckled before responding that she would remain “silent” about it. “That offer could have come two and a half years ago,” she replied.

“I have always found it difficult to connect with my Papa Harvey throughout my life,” Savannah expressed in the second episode. “Chase has consistently been his favored child.”

Reactions to Chase’s Arrest

Episode 2 depicted Todd and Julie's responses to Chase’s January arrest for simple battery after he allegedly attacked a bar manager in Atlanta. (At that time, he was released on a $10,000 bond, with his lawyers stating that the situation was “completely exaggerated.” No charges were pressed by the employee.)

“It scares me,” Julie shared during the second episode. Todd noted that he had “been warning Chase for years to cut back on the drinking.”

Chase, for his part, mentioned to the cameras that he cannot recall “much of it,” but acknowledged that he “hit rock bottom.” Savannah stated that she had attempted to persuade Chase to enter a treatment program before his arrest, but he declined.

Nanny Faye Has Opinions About Chase’s Girlfriend

Chase’s girlfriend, Jodi Laine Fournerat, is also a part of the docuseries, but Nanny Faye did not appear to be her biggest admirer.

“She has never been disrespectful towards me, but I don’t share a connection with her,” she clarified. “You need to be together to develop a bond. She should enjoy laughter and fun with me.”
