Prince Harry disclosed his intention to prioritize his father, King Charles III, in the forefront of his life.
In a conversation with The Guardian, released on Sunday, September 14, the Duke of Sussex shared open thoughts about his recent meeting with his father, affirming a new objective for “the upcoming year,” as stated by the publication.
“The emphasis has to be on my dad,” Harry, 41, expressed.
When inquired if he desired to “spend additional time in the U.K.” and possibly “bring his children someday,” Harry responded, “Absolutely. This week has certainly made that feel more achievable.” (Harry has two children with his spouse Meghan Markle: a six-year-old son named Archie and a four-year-old daughter named Lilibet.)
Us Weekly provided exclusive insights into the reunion between Harry and King Charles, 76, which occurred at Clarence House on Wednesday, September 10. After experiencing more than two years of distance, the meeting “was prompted by a handwritten note from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his wish to reconnect,” according to a source.
Harry, who departed from the California residence he shares with Markle, 44, traveled to the U.K. for the annual WellChild Awards and the Center for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College in London, reportedly met with his father at 5:20 p.m. on that Wednesday.
According to Sky News, the two engaged in conversation for about 54 minutes before Harry attended an Invictus Games event. The source, who talked to Us, mentioned that their discussion involved “catching up personally about the kids and what has been happening with Charles and his health.” The insider also noted that the encounter included “hugs and tears.” (King Charles announced on February 5, 2024, that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.)
Harry's recent comments about his relationship with King Charles come just a few months after he expressed to the BBC that he “would cherish reconciliation with my family.” During the May interview, Harry shared, “I’m unsure how much longer my father has.”
Following King Charles' diagnosis being made public, Harry informed ABC News that he quickly traveled to the U.K. to see him. “I had a conversation with him,” Harry stated to the outlet on February 17, 2024. “I got on a plane and went to see him as soon as I could. I love my family.”
Harry wed Markle, 44, in 2018, and two years later, the couple decided to step back from their roles as senior royals. They also left the U.K. in 2020 for a new beginning in Montecito, where they still live with their children.
In Harry's dialogue with The Guardian, he observed that he finds great happiness living in the United States. “I believe certain segments of the British press want to suggest that I am unhappy, but that’s not the case,” he shared with the publication. “I am very content with who I am, and I appreciate the life I lead.”
