Travis Kelce shared his thoughts on how he is perceived by the public — and his hopes for their impression of him.
The 35-year-old tight end for the Chiefs addressed the “meathead jock stereotype” in an interview with GQ, published on Tuesday, August 12, where he provided some honest insights about his experience.
“I make jokes about it. It’s just part of who I am. I’m out here enjoying my life,” Kelce remarked to the publication, before acknowledging that such stereotypes can sometimes feel heavy. “[But] I certainly don’t wish for everyone to see me as a fool.”
The NFL player, currently dating Taylor Swift and who recently assisted her in announcing her soon-to-be-released 12th studio album, emphasized his commitment to remain authentic regardless of public perception. “There’s always something new to learn,” he noted during the discussion. “Pretending to be the smartest person in the room just isn’t the right approach.”
Kelce candidly spoke about various subjects, including his passion for football. Recognizing a shift in his focus towards different interests off the field as of late, Kelce stated that it had subconsciously influenced his performance in the NFL.
“I believe it may have slipped a bit because I was devoting more energy to setting myself up,” he revealed to the publication. “Plus, there were opportunities that excited me in the realm of acting and entertainment.” (Last year, Kelce dipped into acting with Grotesquerie before hosting the game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and landing a role in Happy Gilmore 2.)
This interview also touched on his relationship with Swift, 35, with Kelce expressing that they are “just two people in love.”
The couple has been together for over two years, with their individual lives increasingly influencing one another. Earlier this week, a teaser for the Wednesday, August 13, episode of Kelce’s podcast “New Heights” featured the announcement of Swift’s new album. (Kelce cohosted the podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce.)
In a promotional snippet for the episode released on Tuesday, August 12, Swift made a special guest appearance before commanding the attention. “I wanted to show you something,” she told the brothers as she produced a case marked with the initials “TS” in orange on the front.
“This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl,” she proclaimed, eliciting excitement from both Travis and Jason, 37.
“TS 12!” Travis exclaimed, while Jason reacted with a shout.
