Matthew Atkinson, known for his role on The Bold and the Beautiful, hinted that he might be poised to return to the beloved soap opera.
On Instagram, on Monday, August 11, the 36-year-old actor shared a clip of himself enjoying a game of corn hole on the set where The Bold and the Beautiful is produced. A sign displaying the show's iconic title was visible in the background.
In his post, Atkinson did not explicitly state that he was filming new scenes. Instead, he left a mysterious message with the caption, “Second time’s a charm.”
Fans speculated about whether Atkinson was merely alluding to his corn hole game or if he was subtly implying that his character, Thomas Forrester, may be making a comeback soon.
The comments section was flooded with eager B&B fans inquiring if the popular character would return, with many urging Atkinson to clarify the situation.
“Are you working with the show again? Please let me know so I can be invested in Bold again,” one follower wrote, while another pleaded, “Please let this mean you’re coming back! We need you!”
Another soap enthusiast shared a similar thought, stating, “I miss that handsome face... I hope you return to B&B since many fans want you back. The storylines are becoming dull, and everyone seems to talk about the same things. You and Hope kept it interesting! Come back!! ❤️❤️❤️”
Atkinson began his journey with the CBS series in 2019, stepping into the role of Thomas Forrester from his predecessor, Pierson Fodé.
His most recent appearance on the show occurred in July 2024. Although Atkinson's exit from The Bold and the Beautiful was never publicly confirmed, he removed all references to the soap from his Instagram bio in November, as reported by Parade. Additionally, he was not included in the updated opening credits of the show the following month, prompting speculation that he might be permanently departed.
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest in June 2024 after a previous hiatus from the show, Atkinson reflected on the strong reactions from fans when he initially left.
“I never anticipated the kind of response I’ve received from the audience, especially regarding Thomas's temporary departure,” Atkinson shared with the publication. “I can’t speak for every fan, but many expressed their disappointment or sadness about Thomas being gone. [They] reached out asking, ‘When are you back? When are you back?’”
He further expressed: “This shows how much they care about the character. It means a lot to me because I would enjoy this even if it were just for myself, but it's incredible to receive a reaction that indicates these viewers care about what you’re doing. There has been so much love from numerous fans expressed in various ways.”
