The Jonas Brothers infused a wave of Disney nostalgia into the opening night of their 20th anniversary tour, with a special guest appearance from Demi Lovato.
Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas launched their JONAS20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, August 10, treating fans to a selection of their greatest hits that have defined their two decades in the music industry. The brothers surprised the audience with a special appearance from Jesse McCartney, creating an unexpected Camp Rock reunion with Lovato, 32.
Demi took the stage dressed in dazzling pants and a bra top, singing “Gotta Find You” and “This Is Me,” both from the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie. Additionally, she and Joe, 35, performed “Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” a song from the 2010 sequel to Camp Rock.
“Thanks for having me @jonasbrothers 🫶,” Lovato expressed on Instagram Sunday, posting a clip of her and Joe performing together.
The two portrayed the characters Mitchie and Shane in the Disney films, and they also had a short off-screen romance in 2010.
“I really got to know her and got to see the ins and outs of what she was struggling with,” Joe told Vulture in 2013, reflecting on Lovato’s battle with substance abuse. “I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time, I was living a lie because I wasn’t happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her because she needed help. I couldn’t express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect.”
Since their breakup, Lovato and Joe have reconnected several times, including at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party and a Halloween party in 2021. They even poked fun at their Disney backgrounds during a playful moment backstage at Sunday’s concert.
“For the history books @joejonas,” Lovato playfully captioned an Instagram post as she and Joe lip-synched to a viral clip featuring fellow Disney alum Debby Ryan stating she “wanted to make history.”
The celebration of their onstage reunion extended beyond just the fans. Lovato’s husband, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, was present to witness the enchanting Disney moments.
“Movie 👏👏👏,” he remarked on a video of Lovato’s duet with Joe.
The 34-year-old also took to his Instagram Story to share additional behind-the-scenes content. “Couldn’t be more proud,” he declared. “I love you sooo much baby @ddlovato.”
The couple, who married in May, shared an adorable kiss in a separate Instagram Story image following the performance.
Kevin, 37, Nick, 32, and Joe are commemorating 20 years as the Jonas Brothers with a tour that includes over 50 performances across the U.S. and Canada, concluding at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena in November.
