If you managed to catch the action thriller Red Right Hand featuring Orlando Bloom in theaters during 2024, you're among a small group.

This film had a limited theatrical release, debuting simultaneously with its digital availability in February.

Currently, Red Right Hand can be streamed on Hulu, offering an unexpectedly thrilling experience that kept surprising and entertaining me.

The Watch With Us team has compiled three compelling reasons why you should check out Red Right Hand.

There's a chance this film could attain cult status if its eccentric humor resonates with enough viewers.

Orlando Bloom Is Embracing His Jason Statham Phase

At the age of 48, Orlando Bloom may be a tad young to be stepping into his Liam Neeson stage. However, he is perfectly positioned to adopt an action hero persona that we’ll refer to as his Jason Statham period. As Cash, Bloom embodies a tough character with a perilous history, which aligns with his role. Curiously enough, he possesses a surprisingly gentle voice. Cash also exhibits a caring side, serving as a solid father figure for his niece, Savannah (Chapel Oaks).

As the narrative progresses, Bloom proves to be a believable seasoned action hero. While this might not be his finest performance or film, this project does represent a transformation of his cinematic identity that could pave the way for more action roles in the future.

Andie MacDowell Goes All Out as the Antagonist

Former romantic comedy star Andie MacDowell takes a bold departure from her usual roles in this film, portraying its main antagonist, Big Cat. I find it hard to determine whether Big Cat is intended to be humorous or if MacDowell is unintentionally funny. Regardless, the outcome is a performance that elicits laughter.

Big Cat can be cartoonishly cruel to those who incite her ire while also displaying a comically breathless seductive charm. While this role may not lead to a plethora of villainous parts for MacDowell, Big Cat certainly grabs the audience's attention. She is simply unlike any recent villainess, and this unique approach is refreshing.

Chapel Oaks Is a Rising Talent

As Red Right Hand marks her first significant role, Chapel Oaks delivers a remarkable performance in her debut. She establishes a convincing on-screen connection with both Cash and her father, Finney (Scott Haze). Without revealing too much, the film dedicates time to Savannah's training with weapons, ensuring her gun skills feel earned as the story unfolds.

Oaks plays a crucial part in the concluding act, as Big Cat tries to exploit her existence to maintain dominance over Cash. Interestingly, it almost seems like Bloom was delayed during the filming of the last few scenes. However, the events are straightforward to track, which is an advantage compared to numerous streaming originals.

While it does not reach the heights of an action classic, Red Right Hand offers a fun, entertaining experience if you are open to some of its over-the-top elements.
