Sam Asghari has addressed Britney Spears' remarks regarding their marriage being a “fake distraction” after feeling “cut off” from her children.

"My marriage felt entirely genuine to me," Asghari expressed in a statement to People on Monday, August 25. “Though it may have been brief, we spent seven years together. I loved her deeply, will forever hold love for her, and wish her nothing but the best.”

Britney Spears indicated that her decision to marry Sam Asghari was partly to uplift her spirits.

In a straightforward Instagram post, the 43-year-old pop icon reflected on her wedding to the 31-year-old actor in June 2022, a time when she was distanced from her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who notably were not present at the ceremony.

"We're simply human and fragile,” Spears wrote on Sunday, August 24, accompanied by a nude photo of herself vacationing with her back facing the camera. “The hardest period of my life was those three years without my children … I was unable to call or text them, and I remember being in disbelief that my means of coping consisted of denial and a lot of tears.”

She added, “It's strange that Sam and I were married, yet it almost seemed like a fabricated distraction to help me handle the situation.” The Grammy-winning artist reassured her 41.9 million followers that she is now in a state of “healing” following the turmoil.

Spears has experienced a tumultuous relationship with her sons in recent times; however, she reconnected with Jayden, 18, in November 2024 after he returned to California. (Preston, 19, continues to reside in Hawaii with their father, Kevin Federline, and has yet to reconcile publicly with his mother.)

“Jayden reached out to Britney to start a conversation,” a source revealed exclusively to Us Weekly at that time. “He is willing to repair their relationship and see how it develops. It will require time and won't lead to an immediate reunion.”

The source added that Spears was “extremely happy” to hear from Jayden two years after they had a public dispute over him partaking in a TV interview regarding their estrangement.

“She hopes that they can spend more time together and wishes Preston will also reconnect,” the source informed Us. “She has felt a void in her heart from not seeing her boys. Jayden reaching out means the world to her.” In Jayden's September 2022 interview with Britain’s ITV, he clarified his choice to skip his mother's wedding to Asghari.

“At that time, it simply wasn’t the right moment to attend,” he stated. “I’m not saying that I’m unhappy for her. I’m genuinely happy for them, but she didn’t extend an invitation to the entire family, and if it were just going to be Preston and me, I just didn’t envision how that situation would conclude positively.”

None of Spears' family members were present at the ceremony held at her residence in Thousand Oaks, California, following disputes regarding her 13-year conservatorship, which was dissolved by a judge in November 2021. Rather, attendees included the "Toxic" artist's close friends Paris Hilton and Madonna, along with Drew Barrymore, Selena Gomez, and several other celebrities.

In August 2023, just a year later, Asghari initiated divorce proceedings from Spears.
