Miley Cyrus made a lighthearted remark about helping JoJo Siwa come “back out” amid Siwa's recent romance with Chris Hughes.
“Oh, my goodness, I haven't been in here since I was in sixth grade,” Cyrus, 32, expressed in a video message shot from inside a closet while she celebrated Pride Month.
“Embrace your coming out if this Pride is your moment. It shouldn’t just be a month — it ought to be a year, or even endless,” Cyrus added in the clip, which circulated on social media on Sunday, June 8.
The “Easy Lover” performer wrapped up her message by mentioning Siwa, 22. “I’m going back inside to grab more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa to bring her back out,” she joked.
Siwa recently revealed her relationship with Hughes, 32, after they met on the U.K. version of Celebrity Big Brother in April. During her stint on the show, Siwa expressed that she had come to understand more about her sexual orientation.
“I’ve always identified as a lesbian, but being here has led me to recognize, ‘Oh no, I’m not just a lesbian; I’m queer,’” she shared on the show. “I find that really exciting. I’m changing letters.”
After leaving the Big Brother house, Siwa ended her relationship with her then-girlfriend, Kath Ebbs. The singer of “Karma” and Hughes sparked romance rumors as they grew close on the reality series.
On June 1, Hughes posted a selfie on Snapchat showing himself and Siwa in bed together. The next day, Siwa confirmed they were dating after initially labeling their connection as “platonic.” “It's not platonic any longer, and it's been a wonderful development, a delightful bond, and I’m completely smitten with him, just as he is with me,” Siwa, 22, commented in an interview with The Guardian published on June 2.
“It’s a beautiful journey,” Siwa elaborated on her new relationship during the episode of the “Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth” podcast that aired on Friday, June 6. “I don’t know how it came to be that Chris entered my life.”
Reflecting on her close connection with Hughes during Celebrity Big Brother, the Dance Moms star revealed, “I wasn’t searching to fall for him. He wasn’t looking to fall for me either. We were just having a blast together.”
“We enjoyed our time together. Whenever one of us felt down, the other would lift them up,” she recalled.
It was only after leaving the Big Brother house and ending her relationship with Ebbs that Siwa began to realize her feelings for Hughes were deeper than mere friendship.
After departing from the reality show, Siwa noted, “I came to understand so many things about my life ... things that made me unhappy and that I had accepted when I shouldn’t have.”
Siwa expressed, “as time passed, I came to understand that I began to develop feelings for Christopher that I never meant to have, yet I couldn’t help but feel them.”
