The estranged spouse of Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman has spoken out for the first time following reports of his drug overdose.

On Sunday, June 15, TMZ disclosed that Elijah, who is 48 years old, was taken to the hospital a day prior in Joshua Tree, California, after suffering an overdose. In a statement provided to People on Sunday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department mentioned that officers “responded to a residence in Landers concerning a male exhibiting erratic behavior.” The department further explained, “Upon arrival, deputies found Elijah Allman, 48, being assessed by medical personnel. Drugs were discovered in the residence, and Allman was subsequently transported to the hospital. The inquiry is still underway.” (Us Weekly has reached out to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for additional comments.)

In a statement to People, Elijah’s wife, Marieangela King Allman, expressed her thoughts regarding the musician’s “inner conflicts” amidst this situation.

“While it is true that Elijah has encountered personal hurdles in the past, his consistent determination to maintain his sobriety and his loyalty to his loved ones have always remained,” said Marieangela, who initiated divorce proceedings against Elijah in April. “Like many individuals, he continually battles his internal issues — however, it’s crucial to understand that he does so with strength, not from a place of weakness,” the statement further elaborated. “Despite the misconceptions that sometimes influence the portrayal of his journey, the truth is that Elijah stays centered, focused, and deeply dedicated to living with integrity and purpose.”

Marieangela emphasized, “I want to express, unequivocally, that I will always support him. My backing is unwavering and rooted in profound respect for the individual he is and the tenacity he continually demonstrates.”

Marieangela filed for divorce from Elijah in April after 11 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court records acquired by Us Weekly. The couple married on December 1, 2013. Elijah had previously filed for divorce from Marieangela in 2021, but that petition was later withdrawn, allowing the couple to remain together until March of this year.

In her divorce documentation, Marieangela listed the couple’s separation date as March 31. At that time, she sought exclusive access to their shared residence along with their vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Prius V. “We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish,” Marieangela told TMZ in April. “I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart. As we move on to this next chapter, we kindly request privacy and genuinely appreciate your understanding.”

Elijah is the only son of Cher and the late musician Gregg Allman. She also has a son, Chaz Bono, with the late Sonny Bono.
