The conclusion of the FBI: International series saw Fly Team leader Wes Mitchell journeying away from Budapest, though not all members of his team were able to assist him from afar.
Caution: The following contains spoilers from season 4, episode 22 of FBI: International.
In the finale that aired on Tuesday, May 20, Wes (Jesse Lee Soffer) traveled to Tokyo in search of the second serial killer believed to have kidnapped at least six American citizens. Previously, the Fly Team in Budapest had captured a Japanese assailant responsible for murdering an American who worked as a prostitute, but they were unable to locate his accomplice before he took his own life.
Adhering to Japanese protocols, Wes arrived in Tokyo without any team members to tackle the investigation. He collaborated with local detective Reiko Isokawa (Yoriko Haraguchi) in an effort to understand the cultural intricacies while trying to rescue the latest victim, an American named Hannah (Ferin Bergen), who had been snatched during her cab ride after finishing her shift as a hostess in the bustling city.
In the meantime, Wes’s team back in Budapest conducted an extensive analysis of the first suspect’s online activity, unveiling the mastermind behind the international killing spree: Lloyd Acuff (Tom Ashton).
When confronted by Wes and Reiko regarding his suspected involvement in the crimes, Lloyd feigned ignorance about his whereabouts at the time of Hannah's abduction. Wes opted to bend a few regulations, resulting in Reiko’s suspension, and he ultimately had to pursue the case independently.
In the end, Wes struck a deal with Lloyd, who was later implicated in the murders of over 50 women, vowing to allow him to die from cyanide poisoning in exchange for information about Hannah’s whereabouts. Once Hannah was secured, Wes honored the agreement by giving Lloyd his “button,” but he replaced the cyanide, leaving Lloyd to bear the repercussions for his actions.
Although Wes managed to crack the case and rescue Hannah, the finale posed many lingering questions. Unfortunately, with the cancellation of FBI: International in March, fans may be left without the closure they seek. (FBI: Most Wanted also faced cancellation.)
“I’m certainly saddened that the show is concluding, but I am grateful to Wolf Entertainment and CBS for everything; particularly the amazing journey across Europe!” expressed FBI: International star Eva-Jane Willis exclusively to Us Weekly in a statement at that time. “We created memories that we will cherish forever!”
Continue reading to find out how each character from FBI: International ended their story in the series:
Wes Mitchell
Wes joined the series in season 4, and after leading the Fly Team for a year, he almost single-handedly solved the serial killer case in Tokyo. After resolving the case, he traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he finally met his half-sister, Delila, after discovering her existence in earlier episodes.
Andre Raines
Raines (Carter Redwood) has been a member of the team from the beginning. After a near-fatal incident on the job a few seasons back, he sought a promotion to GS14, competing alongside Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto). The series concluded with Raines and Vo together as they awaited news on who would secure the promotion.
Cameron Vo
After stepping into the role of Wes’ primary agent in season 4, Vo decided to pursue the GS14 promotion alongside Raines. She felt a bit anxious that this choice might jeopardize their friendship, yet viewers witnessed the duo holding hands in a show of support as they awaited the outcome. However, the episode did not disclose who earned the promotion.
Megan ‘Smitty’ Garretson
Smitty (Willis) became part of the team in season 2, serving as the FBI's liaison to Europol. Surprisingly, Smitty was missing from the series finale.
Amanda Tate
Amanda (Christina Wolfe) emerged as the team's main tech expert in season 3 and became a trusted ally for Wes during season 4. Despite being in Budapest, Amanda played a crucial role in the effort to take down Lloyd in the finale.
