Ben Rathbun, a former participant on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, has passed away at the age of 55, as reported by TMZ.

Rathbun, who featured in season 5 of the TLC reality series alongside his then-girlfriend Mahogany Roca, died on Monday, May 19, at his residence in Greencastle, Indiana, the outlet says. According to TMZ, Rathbun had been fighting stage 4 stomach cancer since late 2024.

In the fifth season of Before the 90 Days, Rathbun, then 52 and a divorced father of four, met Roca, who is originally from Peru, online. However, assumptions from Rathbun's family and some viewers raised concerns about him being catfished, as Roca avoided video calls throughout their relationship. The pair eventually connected in Peru and tied the knot.

“Our civil ceremony was just stunning, I couldn't believe how lovely it was,” Rathbun remarked during a February 2024 episode of the spinoff series 90 Day Diaries, according to In Touch. “However, we are still planning on a religious ceremony.”

During this time, Rathbun expressed that even after their wedding, he needed to “build trust” with his new spouse. “We’re currently navigating a very tough transition. I've gone about six months without a stable job, and bills have been accumulating, naturally,” he mentioned. “Finances are incredibly tight at the moment, and I’m doing everything possible to cover all the bills and prepare for my next journey to Peru.”

The couple had shared details about their engagement in a YouTube vlog released in August 2022.

This engagement occurred just a few months after Rathbun was apprehended in March 2022 for not attending a probation violation hearing.

According to court records obtained by Us Weekly, the reality star was initially arrested for driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with a suspended license in 2020. He received an 18-month probation sentence in January 2021.

Rathbun failed to show up for a scheduled probation violation hearing in February 2022. Consequently, a judge issued a bench warrant the following month, leading to the TLC personality's arrest.

In a statement to In Touch at the time, Rathbun explained that he missed his court appearance summons due to relocating and the notice being sent to the wrong address.

“This was my mistake, as I should have ensured I was receiving all notifications, but by the time I realized, it was too late, and I missed my appointment,” he stated. “As a result, a warrant was issued for my arrest. I promptly drove for 14 hours to turn myself in to the court and spent a night in jail.”
