Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal representation is attempting to have Kid Cudi’s assertions regarding a car explosion in 2012 and Diddy’s purported involvement removed from the court records as part of the ongoing sex trafficking trial against the disgraced artist. (Diddy has refuted all allegations made against him.)

On Monday, May 26, both TMZ and People reported that Diddy’s team submitted legal documents requesting the dismissal of certain parts of Cudi’s testimony, arguing that the rapper’s statements about the 2012 occurrence were simply “speculation” and could lead to “considerable risks of unjust prejudice.”

The defense indicated that a “witness generally cannot testify that, in his opinion, a declarant was lying when making a statement,” referring to Cudi’s assertions made in court the previous week, where he claimed Diddy “was lying” in his denial regarding involvement in the explosion of his Porsche during a meeting in Los Angeles.

Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, took the stand on Thursday, May 22, during Diddy’s trial and spoke about his connection with Cassie, one of Diddy’s former partners and a witness in the trial, with whom he had a relationship in 2011 while she was briefly separated from Diddy. (Diddy and Cassie had an on-and-off relationship from 2007 until 2018.)

Cudi recounted that in 2012, following his breakup with Cassie, his dog sitter informed him that his car was ablaze. “The top of my Porsche was cut open, and that’s where they put the Molotov cocktail,” he testified.

After the car incident, Cudi claimed to have met Diddy at the Soho House in Los Angeles. He described Diddy as standing with his hands behind his back, resembling a character from a Marvel movie. Cudi claimed that Diddy referred to them as “homies” and expressed confusion about his past relationship with Cassie. “He was continually offering me water. It was strange how composed he was,” Cudi observed, adding that he felt uncomfortable with Diddy’s behavior.

When Cudi inquired about the car situation, he claimed that Diddy gave him a "very cold stare" and responded, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Years later, at another meeting at Soho House, Diddy purportedly apologized to Cudi for the past events. “Man, I just want to apologize for everything, all that bulls***,” Cudi recalled Diddy saying, noting that Diddy had one of his daughters present at the meeting.

“After that apology, I kind of found peace with it all,” Cudi stated in court. “That’s the last thing I expected to hear.”

During her own testimony earlier in May, Cassie asserted that Diddy discovered her relationship with Cudi back in 2011 when he snooped through her emails during a “freak off” and came across a message between her and Cudi’s team regarding a toiletry bag being brought to a residence. Cassie alleged that this led to Diddy lurching at her with a “wine bottle opener.”

Cassie additionally stated that Diddy threatened to detonate Cudi’s vehicle and expressed a desire for Cudi’s associates to be present to observe it.

Diddy is presently facing trial on accusations including racketeering conspiracy, forced sex trafficking, coercion or fraud, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. He has entered a not guilty plea regarding all charges and has rejected all claims made against him.
