Liam Payne’s Alcohol Percentage at Time of Death Revealed in Autopsy

New information has surfaced regarding the demise of Liam Payne.
The One Direction vocalist tragically lost his life after tumbling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October 2024. According to a press statement released on Friday, February 21, by Argentina’s National Crime and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14, he exhibited “concentrations of up to 2.7 grams per liter in [his] blood at the time of death.”

At the time of his passing on October 16, 2024, Payne was found to have “cocaine metabolites, methylecgonine, benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene, and the antidepressant sertraline” present in his system.

As noted by Alcohol.org, a blood alcohol concentration between 0.20 and 0.29% can result in “confusion, feelings of being dazed, and disorientation.” The site further explains that “The perception of pain will alter, meaning that if you suffer a fall and sustain serious injuries, you might be unaware of it and less likely to seek help. Nausea and vomiting are common, and the gag reflex may be compromised, resulting in choking or aspiration of vomit. Blackouts commence at this BAC, potentially leading to participation in activities that you do not recall afterward.”

An initial autopsy report examined by Us Weekly last October confirmed that Payne's death resulted from “multiple injuries involving ‘internal and external hemorrhage.’” It was believed he was in a “state of semi or total unconsciousness” at the moment of his fall.

The former One Direction star fell to his death from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires last October. He was 31 years old.

Two individuals, Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Nahuel Paiz, have been accused of supplying drugs to Payne and remain in custody as they await trial on manslaughter charges.

Paiz had previously denied selling drugs to Payne, but the prosecutor’s office's press release indicates that he has been charged “for supplying drugs in exchange for money.”

Pereyra, who worked at CasaSur, was charged with purportedly providing drugs to Payne prior to his death. Local news sources reported that Pereyra was arrested in January 2025, almost a week after Paiz, according to CBS News. It is unclear whether Pereyra has filed a plea regarding the charges against him.
