Jason Isaacs has made a “distressing admission” regarding the Harry Potter films.
While fans around the globe were enchanted by the allure of the series, the actor who portrayed Lucius Malfoy, aged 61, disclosed that the making of the films lacked excitement.
“It’s a distressing admission to share, but it wasn’t particularly enjoyable to create. The process can be rather dull when producing large-scale special effects movies,” Isaacs stated during the episode of BBC’s The One Show aired on Monday, February 24.
“The true enjoyment comes later,” he elaborated. “I encounter and engage with individuals whose lives were transformed by it, and there are still readers sharing the story with their kids. Some claim it has even saved their lives, which I find quite believable.”
Isaacs portrayed the clever father of Draco Malfoy in six out of the eight Harry Potter films released from 2001 to 2011, featuring stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
He noted that despite the extensive special effects used to conjure the magic of Harry Potter, witnessing the magnificent sets of Hogwarts in person remains an exhilarating experience.
“Even as someone who starred in the films, each time I take my godchildren or nieces and nephews to the tour, and we arrive at the Great Hall, it gets to me every single time, and I find myself in tears,” Isaacs expressed. “It’s an incredibly moving and overwhelming experience. There’s something truly magical about those stories.”
The British actor is currently featured in season 3 of The White Lotus, which takes place at a fictional resort in Thailand and was filmed in the Southeast Asian nation.
Last month, Isaacs shared that filming intimate scenes in the heat was far from enjoyable as well.
“We’re engaging in close scenes, and it’s incredibly uncomfortable,” Isaacs remarked regarding the filming conditions for the anthology series in an interview with Time published on January 24. “By the end of each day, we’re completely soaked in sweat and makeup. You could almost peel your clothing off with a trowel. It’s hot enough to melt your fillings.”
“It was the hottest I have ever experienced,” Monaghan, aged 48, shared with the publication. “We’ve certainly gone through a lot.”
New episodes of The White Lotus are broadcast on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
