Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes — alongside his new hairstyle — enjoyed a date night attending a college basketball game.
The couple, both 29 years old, were present for the contest between Texas Tech and the University of Houston in Lubbock, Texas, on Monday, February 24. Patrick, an alumnus of Texas Tech, was spotted on the Jumbotron grinning widely, showcasing his new shorter haircut and wearing red-and-black gear from his former school. Brittany sported the team’s colors as well.
In the end, Houston triumphed over Texas Tech with a final score of 69-61.
This marked another defeat for a team that holds a special place in Patrick’s heart, though this time he was not on the field as a player. Earlier in the year, the star quarterback and his Kansas City Chiefs fell short in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles. Following that loss, Patrick bid farewell to his renowned mohawk haircut and revealed a shorter style a few days later.
It’s no surprise that Patrick’s revamped look, which was first noticed at a family gathering, ignited plenty of chatter online.
“Mahomes finally ditched the mohawk and that can only mean one thing!” a fan commented on X on February 17. “MVP and SBMVP season loading…redemption season.”
Previously, Patrick hinted that a change to his hair was coming. While featuring in Netflix’s 2023 docuseries Quarterback, he revealed he was contemplating altering his signature curls.
“Hair’s gone next year. Going with different hair next year,” he shared with his trainer Bobby Stroupe. “I can’t have two kids and a Mohawk. ‘Cause I gotta be a dad at some point. … Imagine being 40 years old with this haircut.”
In January, Patrick and Brittany welcomed their third child — a daughter named Golden Raye. The NFL couple, who wed in March 2022, are already parents to daughter Sterling and son Bronze, born in February 2021 and November 2022, respectively.
During the offseason, Patrick is prioritizing family time. On Saturday, February 23, he and Brittany threw a Bluey-themed party to celebrate Sterling's 4th birthday.
“I think people don’t even realize how much she does,” Patrick remarked about Brittany during a May 2024 appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast. “I mean, taking care of the day-to-day stuff and making it where I can focus on football and concentrate on my craft and everything like that. [She’s] a Hall of Fame mom and a Hall of Fame wife, [which] makes it a lot easier.”
He added, “I mean, when you get to come home and your best friend’s there and you can just hang out, it makes you want to be there all the time and she pushes me to be great and she’s done a lot of great things herself.”
