Colin Jost is not afraid to dive into dumpsters for love!
The host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!, who is 42 years old, shared in a recent episode of the Amazon Prime Video game show that he went through a dozen dumpsters in New York City after his wife, Scarlett Johansson, worried that she might have lost her engagement ring.
“My wife actually misplaced her engagement ring,” he recalled to E! News, explaining that Johansson, who is 40, was concerned she “might have accidentally tossed it in the garbage.”
The Saturday Night Live comedian elaborated, “I sifted through 12 dumpsters full of trash.” Unfortunately, Jost didn’t uncover any lost treasures, but he did receive an unexpected revelation upon returning home to the Black Widow actress.
“I came back to the house and she said, ‘Oops! It was in my pocket,’” he mentioned humorously, adding, “It turned out to be a great day for me.”
Jost and Johansson tied the knot in October 2020 and are parents to a 3-year-old son named Cosmo. Johansson also has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac.
Recently, Jost disclosed that his wife was “truly so astonished” by a risqué joke about her made by him and his Saturday Night Live co-star Michael Che during their annual “joke swap” in December 2024. He shared, “Costco has taken the roast beef sandwich off its menu,” which was a punchline written for him by Che. “I’ve been having roast beef every night since my wife gave birth.”
Johansson was backstage and was captured on camera looking both horrified and shocked upon hearing the joke's punchline.
“I was definitely taken aback by everything, but they did give her a warning,” Jost remarked during a January 20 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “They said, ‘Just so you know, would you be alright if Michael made a little, kind of, vagina joke at some point?’”
Last year, Jost shared some rare insights regarding his role as a stepfather to Johansson’s daughter, Rose.
“I believe part of why I fell for her is that she’s an incredible mother,” Jost conveyed in an interview with The New York Times in July 2024. “I’ve known Rose, my stepdaughter, since she was two. It’s interesting—you get an opportunity to see someone as a mother ahead of time.”
