Jason Kelce Hints Travis ‘Already Knows’ His Answer About Possible NFL Retirement

Jason Kelce is quite familiar with discussions surrounding NFL retirement — and it seems his brother, Travis Kelce, may have already reached a conclusion regarding his future.

In a recent conversation with Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson on “The Steam Room,” 37-year-old Jason reminisced about seeking advice from Travis before deciding to leave the Philadelphia Eagles the previous year.

“I had a lot of discussions with Travis,” Jason mentioned during the podcast episode that was released on Friday, February 21.

He expressed his intention to reciprocate the support for 35-year-old Travis when the time comes. “I’m certain we will discuss it, as we’ve touched on the subject a bit already,” Jason elaborated. “I believe he will undergo a process to determine his next steps.”

As talks about his NFL career future persist, Jason suggested that Travis might “likely, deep down, already have an idea of what he wants.”

“We share many similarities, but we also approach things differently. At times, I can overthink situations, while my brother has a knack for saying, ‘Hey man, either you want to play or you don’t,’” he described. “He’ll make a remark that simplifies everything, urging me not to fret over the small stuff. And more often than not, he’s spot on.”

Since being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, Travis has consistently been a standout performer. However, during the 2024-2025 NFL season, the tight end found it difficult to replicate his usual level of performance.

“I used to get extremely frustrated and nearly lost my composure frequently due to not achieving the success I expect from myself. I hold myself to such a high standard that it’s challenging for me to accept mediocrity or stats that reflect that,” he shared on the Kelce brothers’ “New Heights” podcast in September 2024, admitting that he “stopped worrying about stats about four or five years ago.”

Rather than fixating on statistics, Travis remarked, “I simply started to play freely and for my teammates. Ultimately, I think that’s the healthier mindset. It’s more about focusing on the game play by play and understanding your role for each specific play.”

As the season wrapped up, the Chiefs had the chance to make history by winning their third Super Bowl consecutively — yet the outcome was disappointing. In a game watched by Travis’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift, the Eagles triumphed over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX with a score of 40-22 earlier this month in New Orleans.

After the match, Travis commented to reporters that the Chiefs “struggled to establish an offensive rhythm,” offering his congratulations to the Eagles on their win.

Meanwhile, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked if he believed Travis was considering retirement. “I’ll allow Travis to come to that decision on his own,” he stated in a post-game interview.

The Chiefs have reportedly allowed Travis until March 14 to reach his decision. In the Super Bowl recap episode of “New Heights,” Jason advised his brother to take his time before arriving at a conclusion.

“I feel I owe it to my teammates that if I decide to return, it has to be a fully committed choice and not something I’m doing half-heartedly,” Travis expressed during the podcast. “I’m entirely dedicated to them, and while I believe I could still play, it’s really about whether I feel motivated and if it’s the right choice for me as an individual, as a man, and as a human being to embrace that responsibility.”
