Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy mournfully honored the birthday of the late One Direction member in a touching manner.

The 26-year-old influencer fought back tears in a TikTok clip, accompanied by Mazzy Star's wistful 1993 tune “Fade Into You,” as she prepared a cake for what would have marked Payne's 32nd birthday on August 29.

As she placed a single candle on the cake to commemorate her departed partner, who tragically passed away in October 2024 after an accidental fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Cassidy ultimately broke into tears. She had been in Argentina on vacation with Payne but returned to her home in the U.S. just days before his untimely death.

In the closing moments of the emotionally charged TikTok video, Cassidy was seen cutting the cake and sharing a slice with the couple's rescue dog, Nala. The pair had welcomed Nala from a shelter merely a month prior to the musician’s passing.

“Happy birthday Liam,” she captioned the post. “I know you’re still indulging your sweet tooth in heaven. I’m not quite the baker I used to be these days.”

Cassidy received supportive messages from her TikTok followers, with one person commenting, “He’s watching over you.”

“You are so beautiful and incredibly strong. This gesture is so sweet, sending you lots of love,” another added.

A third viewer wrote, “Happy Birthday Liam!! He’s celebrating with you and is so proud of how you’re navigating life. 💗 Sending love your way.”

Earlier, Cassidy had posted a music video on Instagram to celebrate Payne’s birthday, with a heartfelt memorial message: “8.29.93. A significant date for the most extraordinary soul. I miss you deeply. Happy Birthday Liam. I wish we could celebrate side by side. I suppose in the next life.”

Since Payne's death in October 2024, Cassidy has openly shared her profound grief, including revealing on the U.K. morning program Lorraine in March that she still had difficulty coming to terms with the loss of the “Strip That Down” singer.

“I often find myself speaking about him as if he’s still here. I don't feel compelled to correct myself,” she stated. “That’s part of my healing process. I'm still grappling with the reality of him not being here anymore. Referring to him in the past tense feels particularly painful because it solidifies the loss. It's incredibly challenging to accept.”

During her appearance on Lorraine, Cassidy confessed that she was “doing her best” but still faced many “challenging days” as a result of the shocking nature of Payne's passing.

“I am fortunate to be supported by such a wonderful network that my gratitude is beyond words,” she expressed. “Having [my dog] Nala has played a significant role in my healing process. I truly appreciate all my friends and family for their encouragement and assistance in helping me stay engaged. I am genuinely making an effort to remain productive instead of being confined to my bedroom all day. Engaging in small activities like yoga and taking long walks … I am doing my utmost to achieve that.”

On Friday, Liam’s sister Nicola shared her own homage for his birthday, sharing that the most recent time she saw her brother was during a bowling event celebrating his 31st birthday.

“If I had known that would be the final moment I’d see you, I would have expressed so much more,” she wrote. “I wish I could travel back in time, relive that evening, embrace you more tightly, capture your smile and voice, inquire further, and document everything so that it would remain etched in my memory forever. I hope you are happy, at peace, and aware of the immense love surrounding you. I think of you every single day, and I doubt there will ever be a day without missing you.”

She went on to say, “So today, on your birthday, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a joyful heavenly birthday. No matter where you are, I hope you’re enjoying yourself, and I hope you’ve managed to score a few strikes as well. Always love you.”

In November 2024, Us Weekly reported that Payne’s family and friends, including Cassidy, were accompanied by his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson as they laid him to rest in Amersham, England.
