Candace Cameron Bure is discussing a challenging moment in her relationship with Valeri Bure.

“Val and I went through a really tough period in our marriage,” Candace, 49, shared during the Tuesday, July 8, episode of her podcast. “There were times when we thought, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to get through this.’ However, at one point, Lev [their oldest son] gave us a 45-minute message about marriage. He sat on the couch with his Bible open and spoke on the subject.”

The Full House star continued, “I’ll always remember this because he said, ‘I know I’m young and haven’t been married yet. So I understand that it might be hard to take marriage advice from someone who hasn’t experienced it. But I don’t have to be married to know what the scriptures say.’”

Candace noted that her son “was such a soothing presence and demonstrated a lot of wisdom.” She and Val felt they “walked away” recognizing, “We’ve raised some pretty good kids.”

Candace and Valeri, 51, were married in 1996, and they later welcomed Natasha, 26, Lev, 25, and Maksim, 23.

Candace's Full House co-star, Dave Coulier, introduced her to the former hockey player.

“[Lori Loughlin and I] were checking out two good-looking guys on the ice, and I said, ‘I want to meet that one, the blonde guy,’ who was Val,” she recalled in a 2014 interview. “The very next day we went on a date, and within less than a year, we were engaged.”

Over the years, Candace has provided insight into the reality of her relationship with Valeri, which is not without its imperfections.

“My husband is a born leader. I quickly realized that I needed to find a way to honor his assertive personality and accept his tendency to want the final say on almost everything,” she wrote in her 2013 book, Balancing It All. “I am not someone who is passive, but I chose to take on a more submissive role in our relationship because I aimed to do everything I could to ensure my marriage and family thrive.”

In 2018, the former View co-host touched on their marital struggles, exclusively telling Us Weekly, “Marriage is a wonderful, beautiful experience, but there will always be challenging moments. No one has a perfectly flawless marriage.… You simply endure and stay committed.”

Candace mentioned that staying busy has contributed to maintaining the chemistry between them.

“Traveling a lot is the secret!” she revealed to Us at that time. “Because, you know, being apart makes the heart grow fonder.”
