Tallulah Willis is responding to the backlash regarding her sharing images of her father, Bruce Willis, as he navigates frontotemporal dementia.
On Sunday, June 22, 31-year-old Tallulah shared touching photos of 70-year-old Bruce on Instagram, captioning them, "Sunday funday at Grams! Grateful."
The images depicted Tallulah and Bruce sharing warmth and laughter, eliciting a mix of reactions — both positive and some critical.
One follower commented on Monday, “I believe you should not showcase your father to the public! He is in a vulnerable state!” adding, “Some matters ought to remain private! You don’t have his consent to share these!”
In her reply, Tallulah noted, “Hello. I understand your concern. As a family, we choose wisely when we post. Today was filled with joy and smiles.”
She clarified: “I decided to share this with everyone, as I recognize how much he means to many.”
Numerous commenters came forward to support Tallulah.
“This is such a loving photo,” remarked one woman, pointing to the initial picture of Bruce holding his daughter's hand. “There should be no criticism regarding her sharing this image. Bruce and his daughter are helping raise awareness, paving the way for a potential cure in the future.”
Bruce is the father of Tallulah, along with daughters Rumer, 36, and Scout, 33, from his previous marriage to Demi Moore. He also has two younger daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with his wife, Emma Heming Willis.
The family has been quite open on social media about Bruce’s health struggles in recent years. They first made public in March 2022 that Bruce had been diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder affecting language comprehension and speech. A year later, they announced that his condition had advanced to frontotemporal dementia, which can “lead to gradual declines in behavior, personality, or problems with language production and understanding,” as per the Alzheimer’s Association.
On Father’s Day, Rumer reflected on the significant changes in their lives since her father's diagnosis.
“Today is difficult; I feel a profound ache in my chest to communicate with you and share everything happening in my life,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of her with her dad. “To embrace you and inquire about your experiences and challenges and triumphs.”
Rumer added, “I wish I had asked you more questions while you were able to share everything. But I know you wouldn’t want me to be sad today, so I’ll focus on being grateful, reminding myself how fortunate I am that you’re my dad and that you’re still here. I can still hold you, hug you, kiss your cheek, rub your head, and tell you stories.”
