Billy Ray Cyrus expressed his admiration for his daughter Miley Cyrus one month after she announced that they have reconciled after a lengthy period of estrangement.
On Sunday, June 1, the 63-year-old Billy Ray shared his appreciation for 32-year-old Miley on Instagram, posting her Instagram Story featuring the music video for her latest single "Easy Lover."
In the post, the "Achy Breaky Heart" artist wrote, “So proud of you Mile!!!” and tagged her while including colorful heart stickers.
Billy Ray also left his mark on Miley’s earlier promotional post regarding the track from her new album Something Beautiful, adding three fiery heart emojis and liking the post.
This public display of affection follows Miley’s revelation about her relationship with Billy Ray during a statement on her Instagram Story on May 10. “My dad and I have had our challenges over the years,” she noted. “Now, in my 30s, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.”
Before Miley’s statement, Billy Ray had shared a photo featuring himself, Miley, son Braison, 31, and Miley's boyfriend, Maxx Marando. (Billy Ray has five children — Miley, Braison, Noah Cyrus, 25, Brandi Cyrus, 38, and Trace Cyrus, 36 — with his ex-wife Tish Cyrus, and Christopher Cyrus, 33, from his relationship with ex Kristin Luckey.)
Recently, Miley discussed the family's reconnection during an interview on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, which was released on Saturday, May 31. “As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents — because my mom’s really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard,” she explained. “I think I internalized some of my mom’s pain as my own because it affected her more deeply than it affected me as an adult, and so I carried a lot of her suffering.”
In the aftermath of Tish, 58, and Billy Ray's divorce, the Cyrus family became fragmented, with Miley remaining close to her mother and supporting her stepfather, Dominic Purcell. “I think timing is everything,” Miley remarked, expressing joy over both parents moving on, especially with Billy Ray’s new relationship with Elizabeth Hurley. “Now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing. I’m being an adult about it.”
Miley added, “Initially, it’s difficult, because the child within you reacts before your adult self can say, ‘Yes, that’s your dad, but he’s just another person who deserves to find joy and happiness.’ My younger self has finally caught up.”
