In a conversation featured in The Mirror, released on Sunday, June 1, McClarnon opened up about the emotional path of her pregnancy, which she had previously shared on Instagram the month before. The artist confessed to having gone through two devastating miscarriages prior to achieving uplifting news following a round of IVF treatment.

Now in her second trimester, McClarnon shared that she and her doctor spouse, Peter Cho, started looking into fertility alternatives shortly after they met online in 2021. Their journey involved three unsuccessful embryo transfer attempts via IVF and, later on, two miscarriages toward the conclusion of 2024, occurring “after their initial successful cycles.” IVF, as explained by Mayo Clinic, involves harvesting mature eggs from ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm within a laboratory setting.

She conveyed to the publication that she had considered no longer attempting to conceive. “I declared I was done after the last experience, and Peter wholeheartedly supported that decision, agreeing that it was my body and he would stand by whatever I chose,” she recounted. “Emotionally, I felt terrible; it was incredibly challenging. However, we spent Christmas at my small two-bedroom apartment, with my parents visiting from Liverpool, and we all managed to fit in together. That experience genuinely aided my healing process.”

In her Instagram announcement on May 13, McClarnon shared a video showing her seated on a park bench, as the camera gradually approached her from the rear. Over the video, text appeared stating, “After years of sometimes quite painful IVF and quite dark times,” before she rose from the bench to reveal her blossoming baby bump.

“I’m pregnant! We feel like we’ve been given the world!” appeared next to scenes of McClarnon radiantly smiling.

She also reflected on this joy in the video's caption, stating, “I just can’t believe we’re here. ❤️ So many have faced exactly what I did and even worse. ❤️ I want to lend my voice to those who can help others understand and cope with all that IVF entails, and the grief that follows after so much hope.”

McClarnon shared with the outlet that she is “loving life” while being mindful “of how her age could affect her pregnancy and delivery.” Reports indicate that she is “already taking aspirin as she falls into the high-risk category” and is under observation for preeclampsia, which the Preeclampsia Foundation defines as “sustained high blood pressure that arises during pregnancy.”

The publication highlighted that she will soon begin receiving “regular blood-thinning injections” as she heads towards a significant milestone in her pregnancy — discovering the gender of her baby.
