Gigi Hadid Shares Rare Comments About Coparenting With Ex Zayn Malik: We ‘Have Each Other’s Backs’

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are aligned in their approach to parenting their 4-year-old daughter, Khai.

“We plan our custody arrangements several months ahead,” Hadid, 29, revealed in her April cover story for Vogue, released on Tuesday, March 11. “While changes can occur here and there, we support one another and stand by each other.”

Hadid emphasized that her coparenting dynamic with Malik is characterized by “love and a sense of teamwork.” She believes their amiable relationship aids them in navigating the challenges of being parents under public scrutiny.

“The difficult part is that the world knows so much and presumes to understand everything,” she elaborated. “Ultimately, we’re not keen on sharing our entire narrative. What truly matters to us is co-parenting our daughter with profound respect for each other, and not just as coparents, but acknowledging our shared experiences.”

Hadid and Malik, 32, were involved in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2015 to 2021, and they welcomed Khai in September 2020. “Gigi and Zayn are cherishing parenthood and adore their little girl,” an insider shared with Us Weekly in October 2020. “Things are going exceptionally well for them and they are both very happy. Gigi is thrilled to embrace motherhood and enjoys every moment.”

Hadid has been romantically connected to her boyfriend, Bradley Cooper, since October 2023. A source exclusively told Us in February 2024 that Malik is “unhappy with their relationship and will always feel that way.” However, the former One Direction member appears to have shifted his perspective, as another insider revealed to Us that in May of last year, he was “fully supportive” of Hadid and Cooper’s relationship.

“They had a challenging period but have both grown and are concentrating on their 3-year-old daughter,” another source mentioned. “It’s important for them that she is raised in a secure environment.”

Last year, Hadid and Malik shared rare images of Khai on Instagram to celebrate her 4th birthday. “Khai- being your mama is my greatest joy and pride in life!!!! Thank you for the four most wonderful years of my life,” Hadid captioned a series of photos from Khai’s Grogu-themed birthday party in September 2024. “You inspire me to embrace life each day in the simplest and most beautiful ways. Your potential is limitless, my sweetest love !!!!”

In addition to discussing their coparenting journey, Hadid also reflected on her relationship with Cooper in her Vogue feature.

“I believe reaching a point where you understand what you want and deserve in a relationship is crucial, and then finding someone who is in a place in their life to recognize what they seek and deserve… and both of you working independently to unite and be the best partner you can be,” she shared with the publication. “I just feel incredibly fortunate. Yes, fortunate is the word.”
