Members of the cast from Beverly Hills, 90210 have begun to express their feelings following the passing of their former colleague Shannen Doherty.

“I'm shocked and deeply saddened by the news of my friend Shannen's passing,” Jason Priestley posted on Instagram on Sunday, July 14. “She was an incredible force, and her absence will be profoundly felt. I'm sending love and strength to her family during this difficult time.”

The announcement of Doherty’s death was made in the early hours of Sunday. The actress, who was 53, passed away after a prolonged struggle with cancer, as confirmed by her publicist Leslie Sloane to Us Weekly.

“It is with great sadness that I confirm the death of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she succumbed to cancer after many years of fighting against the illness,” the statement indicated. “Surrounded by her beloved family and dog, Bowie, she was a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. The family requests privacy during this time to allow them to mourn peacefully.”

Doherty was first diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in 2015. She made her diagnosis public in 2017, following several years in remission. Later on, Doherty disclosed that the cancer had metastasized to her bones.

“I don’t want to die,” she shared with People in November 2023 while giving a health update. “I am not finished living. I am not finished loving. I am not finished creating. I am not finished with my hopes of making positive changes.”

Throughout her battle with cancer, Doherty received public support from her well-known friends and costars, and the cast of the Fox series is no different. Doherty portrayed Brenda Walsh (the twin sister of Priestley’s Brandon) for four seasons in the legendary show. Her on-screen love interest, Luke Perry, passed away in 2019 after suffering a stroke at the age of 52.

Jason Priestley

Priestley reminisced about his time with Doherty by sharing an old photo of them together.

Carol Potter

“Heartbroken and upset by the news of Shannen Doherty’s passing. What a remarkable journey she has had!” Potter, who played Brenda’s mother Cindy Walsh on the show, expressed via Instagram on Sunday. “Taken too soon. Throughout it all, she remained true to herself and exemplified courage and resilience in confronting her death. May she rest in peace. ❤️🙏.”

Gabrielle Carteris

“So young – so heartbreaking,” Carteris, known for her role as Andrea Zuckerman in the series, wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “Rest in peace, Shannen. I know Luke is there to welcome you with open arms.”

Carteris also made a separate statement to Us, saying, “Shannen was incredibly young and brave. By openly sharing her experience, she has touched so many lives. My thoughts are with her family, and I am certain that Luke is welcoming her with open arms.”

Brian Austin Green

“Shan. My sister … you stood by me through it all,” the actor known for his role as David Silver expressed on his Instagram Story on Sunday. “You greatly contributed to my understanding of love. The void you leave is more than I can comprehend right now. Thank you for being the incredible person you were💔 💔.”

Matthew Laurance

“This is how I want to remember her,” Laurance, who portrayed Mel Silver in the series, shared on X with a photograph of a younger Doherty. “Her life was filled with challenges and complexities … I cherished our relationship. I am so thankful that four months ago, I had the opportunity to spend three days with her at the Lexington Comic Con. Our embraces were beautiful … especially the final extended one. May she find everlasting peace now.”

Tori Spelling

On Sunday, July 14, Spelling shared a heartfelt image of the two women embracing, decorated with a collection of red hearts on her Instagram Story. “I don’t have the right words just yet. But we understood each other, and that’s what matters,” she wrote in the caption.

The following day, July 15, Spelling elaborated on her tribute to the departed star.

“Damn them… is what Shan would say if I mentioned the pressure I feel to sum up our 36-year relationship and the grief I carry for someone whose light went out too soon,” Spelling shared, revealing they first crossed paths when she was just 15. “I was the boss’s daughter without a voice, and she was the star with a powerful one. She took me under her wing, instilling in me the belief that I had a voice and was valuable. We quickly became best friends, each other's wing women, true confidantes, support systems during tough times in relationships, roommates at times, travel partners, and so much more.”

Spelling went on, “She consistently defended me. She always had my back and believed in me even when I struggled to believe in myself. We were young and allowed a lot of external and internal influences to affect our friendship. In a world where making amends with childhood friends who shape your adult self is rare, we were fortunate to do just that.”

The actress expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to become close friends and that she would “carry the torch” and “remain rebellious” in honor of Doherty.

“She was a trailblazer when many women felt uneasy being strong. She never forced it; she simply was,” Spelling remarked. “She embodied sexiness, strength, indifference to judgment, compassion, and all infused with a sharp sense of humor! Her wit was one of my favorite things about her. And no one could whip up a frito pie like Shan!”

Jennie Garth

“I am still grappling with the immense sadness over the loss of my longtime friend Shannen,” Garth wrote on Instagram alongside two nostalgic photos of the two women from the set of the TV drama.

“The woman whom I frequently refer to as one of the most resilient individuals I have encountered,” Garth remarked. “Our bond was genuine and sincere. Despite often being placed in opposition to one another, that did not represent the essence of our actual relationship, which was grounded in mutual respect and admiration.”

The What I Like About You star further expressed, “She embodied courage, passion, determination, and boundless love and generosity. Her absence will be profoundly felt, and I will forever cherish her in my heart and in my memories. My heart is heavy for her family and Bowie.”

James Eckhouse

Eckhouse, who played Doherty’s father, Jim Walsh, on the teenage drama, posted a nostalgic photo of the two on Instagram on Monday, July 15.

“What a great loss. She was fierce in her craft, fierce in her affections, and fiercely resilient throughout her long battle with cancer,” he wrote. “Shannen, your absence will be keenly felt…”

Ian Ziering

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of Doherty’s passing, Ziering, known for his role as Steve Sanders, took to Instagram to express his heartfelt tribute. “When she passed away a year ago, I chose not to share anything. Yes, some people took issue with that. In response, I’d like to say: grief is not a spectacle. It is a personal experience. Allow individuals to grieve in their own ways,” he shared alongside a photo of them embracing on July 14, 2025.

The message continued, “I miss Shannen. In the early days of 90210, we occasionally had our differences—two powerful personalities can do that—but we always held respect for one another. I was the wisecracking comic relief; she was the embodiment of beautiful chaos, the headline after hours, the girl who could wreck a hotel room and still capture the tabloids' affection. (Stop chuckling, Shan. You know it’s true.)”

Ziering wrapped up his tribute with a heartfelt message directed to his friend. “So, my beloved Shannen—I think of you frequently. Your determination. Your passion. Your generous spirit that so few truly recognized. I carry all of that with me still. Rest peacefully, Shan,” Ziering concluded.
