The son of Jeff Sperbeck, a long-time friend and agent of NFL icon John Elway, has chosen to speak out following his father's passing.
Sperbeck, aged 62, passed away in April after an incident involving a golf cart being driven by Elway, who is 64, at the Madison Club located in La Quinta, California.
On Sunday, May 18, Jackson, Sperbeck’s son, honored his father through an Instagram post featuring a collection of images depicting their moments together throughout the years. Among these photos is a heartwarming image of Sperbeck lifting young Jackson onto his shoulders. Additional photos include Sperbeck dancing at a family gathering and sharing ice cream with his children.
"Your footsteps gave me direction. I’ll walk the rest with purpose," Jackson wrote in the post. "I love you dad." Sperbeck is survived by his spouse, Cori, and their three children: Sam, Carly, and Jackson.
Earlier this month, TMZ reported that the cause of Sperbeck's death was determined to be blunt head trauma, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. His death has been classified as an accident. "I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck," Elway conveyed in a statement on April 30. "There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me."
"My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam, and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him," continues Elway’s statement. "Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship, and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others."
On the same day, Sperbeck's family released their own statement regarding the loss of the well-known sports agent.
"We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Jeff Sperbeck. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all," the family expressed. "We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elways and the many other clients Jeff called friends."
The family also acknowledged the tremendous support they have received from the community but wrapped up their statement by requesting privacy during this difficult time.
Elway’s association with Sperbeck began in 1990, which was seven years into the quarterback's NFL journey. Their friendship deepened during Elway's playing career, and in 2015 they launched the wine brand 7Cellars together.
