The two children of legendary actress Diane Keaton, Dexter White and Duke Keaton, published social media tributes on Sunday, October 11, marking the first anniversary of their mother’s death. The Oscar-winning star passed away in October 2025 at the age of 79 following a battle with pneumonia.
Reflecting on the milestone, 30-year-old Dexter posted a black-and-white photograph on Instagram featuring her mother from her 2021 wedding day, a special ceremony where the late actress had walked her down the aisle during her marriage to race car driver Jordan White.
"One year without you, mom," Dexter wrote in her tribute. "It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once. I’m still trying to get used to a world where I can’t call you, have you there for a hug, or go on adventures with you."
Dexter added in her caption that simple, routine moments continue to bring back memories of her mother, noting, "It’s the everyday moments that remind me just how much I wish you were still here. I love you and I miss you. Always."
Duke Keaton Shares First Instagram Post to Remember His Mother
Diane Keaton’s 26-year-old son, Duke, who works as an artist, also marked the anniversary by sharing a photo carousel containing three images of himself spending time with his mother over the years.
"I love you Mom. Thinking of you every day," Duke wrote in what served as the very first post on his public Instagram account.
The comment section on Duke’s post received supportive messages from friends and family, including American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson. The 51-year-old star left three red heart emojis on Duke's post, to which he responded with three red hearts in return.
Hours before replying to Duke, Paulson had shared a personal tribute to the Father of the Bride star on her own social media page. Posting on Sunday, Paulson wrote, "One year. Impossible. Laughing with you will always be what I remember most. I love you."
Previous Commemorations and Final Days
While Duke's post was his first public social media message about his mother, Dexter has routinely utilized her online platform to honor the late actress over the past year. In May, she posted an array of family photographs to observe her first Mother's Day without her.
"First Mother’s Day without you. I miss you more than words can say," Dexter expressed at the time. "Missing her voice, her hugs, her presence, and everything that made her home. I love you, Mom."
Following the screen legend's death in late 2025, a close friend of the family revealed to People that the star’s health had "declined very suddenly" during her final months. This sudden shift led her to step away from public life to spend her remaining time privately with her closest family members. The outlet reported that she intentionally chose not to make the full details of her medical condition public to many of her friends.
Diane Keaton adopted both of her children as babies, adopting Dexter in 1996 and Duke in 2001. She is survived by both of her adult children.
