Jennifer Love Hewitt dazzled at the red carpet premiere for the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
On Monday, July 14, the 46-year-old actress showcased her figure in a black beaded gown, complementing her look with sparkling black heels and rings on almost every finger. Hewitt opted for a richly dramatic makeup look featuring smoky eyes paired with shiny pink lips.
She beamed as she posed for pictures in downtown Los Angeles with her co-stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, and Jonah Hauer-King.
Hewitt starred alongside Prinze Jr., 49, in the original I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), where their characters, Julie James and Ray Bronson, find themselves pursued by a serial killer after attempting to conceal a car accident that allegedly takes the life of a stranger. The duo returns to their roles in the reboot, set to premiere in theaters on Friday, July 18.
The film's trailer was released in April, showcasing Cline's character, Danica Richards, relaxing in a bath—oblivious to the horrific murder of her boyfriend taking place below. Later, she queries a friend whether the gruesome act is a form of “some kind karma for what we did,” further expressing concern, “What if someone witnessed what happened?”
Danica’s anxieties are given weight when she receives a chilling card bearing the message, “I know what you did last summer.”
Hewitt is familiar with that phrase. The trailer concludes with Sui Wonders’ character enlisting the now older and still affected Julie for assistance.
“I just have one question. What did you do last summer?” Julie inquires.
Hewitt also appeared as the leading lady in the 1998 follow-up, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, alongside Prinze Jr., Brandy, and Mekhi Phifer. A different cast helmed a third installment titled I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), while a TV series premiered on Prime Video in 2021 but was canceled after one season.
“I really enjoyed making those movies,” Hewitt remarked exclusively to Us Weekly in May 2024, amid rumors of her potential return to the franchise. “There’s nothing quite like filming a horror movie. It’s the most fun. Julie James is incredible. I believe there are still stories to tell, and I would gladly take part.”
Earlier this year, the actress posted a makeup-free selfie on Instagram, expressing to her fans that she’s “learning to embrace the skin I’m in more and more these days.”
“It’s been a challenging start to the year,” she admitted at that time. “I don’t quite feel like my usual self. Yet I think perhaps these experiences will draw me closer to who I am destined to become.”
She expressed gratitude to her family for their unwavering support as she navigates the complexities of aging in the public eye.
"In the midst of this sense of grief and confusion, I have discovered an unexpected sense of tranquility and release that typically does not come easily to me," she shared. "I’m aware that I have the most wonderful children and husband. The embrace of my brother brings me comfort. I feel the presence of my mother with me every day. My friends inspire me to strive to be a better person each day."
She went on to say, "I possess everything I genuinely require and truly desire nothing beyond moments of happiness, the continuation of a career I am passionate about, more time spent with friends, delightful meals, and a transition to this year that brings clarity and, with luck, a hint of magic."
