Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau’s Mom Expresses Gratitude for Emotional Boston College Tribute

Johnny and Matthew’s mom, Jane Gradreau, shared her appreciation for Boston College’s touching tribute to her late sons.
“Thank you to @BC_MHockey for honoring our boys this past weekend,” Jane wrote via X on Friday, November 15. “The love and support you’ve shown for John, Matty, and our entire family have helped us through the most difficult time of our lives.”
Jane also shared a series of snaps from the event at Johnny and Matthew’s alma mater. In one snap, the Gaudreau family rocked jerseys with Johnny and Matthew’s respective numbers, 13 and 21. Both brothers played hockey for the university before going pro.

“Many of our best hockey memories come from the six unforgettable years we spent watching John and/or Matty play at BC,” she wrote in a subsequent tweet. “The tribute Boston College gave to the boys was so special and we know they were especially happy for the two wins!❤️🏒🦅.”
Johnny and Matthew were honored at the November 8 game against Maine three months after their tragic deaths.

The school also honored late player Tony Voce, who died in July at 43. Both the Voce and Gaudreau families joined the teams on the ice during pregame for a ceremonial puck drop.
Jerseys honoring the late players were available to purchase via an auction. Proceeds went to the Tony Voce Foundation and the adaptive playground initiative at the Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, New Jersey, as requested by the Gaudreau family.
“Always with us ❤️,” the Boston College hockey team wrote via X on November 8 alongside photos from the ceremony. “We are honored to have the Voce and Gaudreau families here with us tonight as we honor Tony, Johnny and Matthew’s legacies.”
Johnny and Matthew’s sister, Katie Gaudreau, also attended the event alongside her parents.
“Eagles forever.🤍,” she wrote via Instagram on November 10. “Thank you BC. 🦅”
Johnny and Matthew died in August when an alleged drunk driver crashed into them while they were riding their bikes near their hometown in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29. Both men were in town to be groomsmen in Katie’s wedding. (Following the accident, Katie’s nuptials were postponed and were recently rescheduled.)
In addition to their parents and siblings, Johnny and Matthew are survived by their wives, Meredith and Madeline, who are both pregnant. Madeline is expecting her and Matthew’s first child while Meredith announced at the brothers’ funeral that she is pregnant with her and Johnny’s third baby. The couple also shared daughter Noa, 2, and son Johnny, 9 months.
